nceca's big failing/email

updated fri 8 apr 05

without question an organization
the size of nceca should have email
communication with all of its members.
just as we do here on clayart.

i am sure this message will get to them.

it is not that hard. someone has to be willing
to step up to the plate and get it done.
(and, please do not ask me...i have just about
all i can handle, but they will never seek my advice.
tooo scarry.)
just like the codes to register online..now what was that
about? it was not international banking.

(it is very strange to me when art professors are claiming
to be `in on the new, new ideas, on the cutting edge of
society`...and they live in 1980's technology.)

they have ample funds. they are just not going
into good communication. glossy printed books are
fine, but very expensive and it takes month after month
to get them into the hands of members. email is instant,
and it gets to the folks that need it...now, not six or fifteen months from
now.

clayart can get more information to more people in the
world of clay in minutes. it costs a thousand dollars a year
to have the software...anyone can do it. as i have said
before, i have a back up system in place/linux...and i can take
the entire project and run it from my basement...and pay for
it myself. how hard is that? and, figglywig from indy has set
me up with an imac and all the software to run clayart from
an independent mac. there are some great folks out there
in email land that love clayart...and are willing to put their
work where their mouth is.

mel jacobson/moderator/clayart.
member of nceca for many years.

p.s. we have at least ten clayart members that are more
than capable of setting up a system for necea...at a reasonable
cost. in fact several are cutting edge technology experts.
some have contacted me about help for clayart...and, i keep
them in my pocket in case i need them. so far, we are in
good hands.

This message will not get to them unless you send it. Don't fool
yourself. Is there someone collecting complaints from Clayart and
sending them to the board? If there is I don't know who it is. I sure
am not. Complaints behind the organizations back do not just go
unanswered and are not just nonproductive, they are destructive. They
broadcast your frustration to everyplace except where it might do some
good. If this is a priority for you then send it to the board.
Otherwise it is just griping behind their back. Even if someone is
forwarding (I doubt it) them they will get a better read if you send
them direct to the board.

If as you say email is so simple try this:
---------------------------------
---------------------------------
Mailto: office@nceca.net
Dear NCECA Staff,

Please forward this by email to the board members.

Dear NCECA Board,
Thank you for your hard work. I think NCECA should start emailing its
members with timely information. Software is available that makes this
sort of thing relatively easy. I manage a large list and would be glad
to give you opinions about the software I use for this.

Does anyone go to NCECA board meetings to complain about Clayart? What
a waste of time that would be. If you are going to gripe about NCECA on
this forum at least have the decency to CC office@nceca.net . As Mel
said, email is simple.

Its not that I disagree with the message, I have been pushing for
electronic communications from them for years. The asked me about a
discussion group like clayart once. At the time it would have been
redundant. They asked about other more sophisticated forums with
specific topics images etc. I told them they needed someone to run
them.

Louis

Having read over 10 years of complaints about NCECA on Clayart
Sat on the NCECA board
Forwarded complaints to the Board in the past
Seen NCECA respond to those complaints

Louis and all--good suggestion, to contact NCECA directly. Certainly more
likely to have results, I'd think.

YOu suggest:
Dear NCECA Board,
> Thank you for your hard work. I think NCECA should start emailing its

But why worry about the software? It doesn't need to cost a grand or so. I
run a list of nearly 2000 people using Yahoo groups--I own another 5 smaller
lists and belong to a number of others. Yes, there are glitches, but they
also offer a whole LOT of options, free--including a place to store files,
photos, announcemnts, links, calendars and so forth.

You can run a moderated list, or not--by far my preference, NOT to moderate.
I moderate new members till I know they're serious about why we're there,
but moderating each post? From adults? I don't think so.

There are searchable archives, too...not so neatly organized as Clayart's,
but accessible just the same, to all. It's nice, convenient, and doesn't
cost $1000 or more.

Just while you're looking at options... (There are also google lists,
and I belong to one or two. They're not quite as convenient as Yahoo, but
still free.)

There's no real reason NOT to have easy communication these days.
