YIXING TEAPOT WORKSHOP

Yixing artist and workshop instructor, Mequin Gu, followed by a
demonstration of traditional techniques. Participants will use Yixing tools,=

*** Come learn from the artist who practically invented decorative handles
and spouts. Instructor, Steve Salisian will demonstrate how to make and use
texture stamps and press molds. He will form handles, spouts, feet and lids
using coil and slab construction techniques, in conjunction with thrown
bodies resulting in very individualized mugs, pitchers and teapots. In this=

hands-on workshop, you will have the opportunity to try some of these
techniques on your own greenware, or just practice the techniques on their o=
wn.

throwing workshop with emphasis on learning to throw the repeated form.
Japanese hump throwing is taught, along with using many kinds of measuring
devices. Those that have never thrown anything larger than three pounds will=

be excited to see how anyone can throw 25 pounds or make a teapot the size
of a walnut. The audience will be encouraged to ask questions, show their
own work for critique and discuss any problems in clay. We are looking
forward to a weekend of Mel's stories and pots with a lively
audience-directed chat. Mel is an amazing resource and inspiring
teacher...so bring your questions, problems, and challenges!

inset niche. Lana will show slides of her work, discuss different ways to
make intricate multi-level stamps and demo unusual handles.

well as selections from his wide ranging personal clay collection with a few=

conversation. He will demonstrate his throwing and forming techniques
including his personal surface treatments, inlaid colored glass technique,
narrow neck vase shapes, one handed throwing and expanding forms from the
inside out, glazing and raku firing. Throughout the weekend Steven will talk=

about his life, career, and experiences as a student, potter, teacher,

A PASSION FOR THE FIGURE

***This workshop is for painters who want to work with clay, sculptors
who want to work with a model, and potters who want to get off the
wheel. Incorporating a live-model, this hands-on workshop focuses on
techniqes for making dynamic and expressive figurative clay forms.
Participants draw and paint on clay slabs, build free standing figures.
Working with polychrome terra sigillatas and colored clay, explore the
rich and varied surfaces possible.

PRECIOUS METAL CLAY ON BISQUE BEADS

***Precious Metal Clay is fine silver (.999 pure) in very fine particles
in a base of water and organic binder. Once it is fired the binder burns
off and only the fine silver remains.
In this workshop we will work with slip and a variety of techniques to
embellish bisque beads (available at Mother Earth).

also cover: solving classroom management "issues" when working with
clay, firing your school Kiln and finding firing services in the area,
as well as how to have fun with finishing clay projects after they have

demonstrate and produce a body of work in the studio. Participants are
encouraged to watch, ask questions, document and photograph the creative
process as practiced by a mature artist. He will talk about his life
and personal philosophy. In addition, Soldner will teach his low-tech
solutions for mixing glazes, making terra-sigillata, kiln-building,
firing theory, and explain his clay aesthetics.

Learn how an effective web strategy can showcase and sell your work!
This workshop is not about the mechanics of building websites. Instead,

ADVANCED THROWING TECHNIQUES

***This one day workshop will be a great way to improve your throwing
skills. Jill Getzan will demonstrate various techniques such as plates,
platters, lid galleries, throwing off the hump, how to throw knobs on
the lid and more. After each demonstration you will work on the wheel to
practice the technique, so bring lots of clay; this will be a very

CLAY IN THE CLASSROOM

*** This is a fun and intensive one-day, hands-on clay workshop designed
specifically for the classroom teacher. In this informative workshop you
will learn how to: choose materials (e.g., clay, glazes, etc.), set up
your classroom to use clay with less mess, and design age-appropriate
lessons that develop creativity and problem-solving. The workshop will
also cover: solving classroom management "issues" when working with
clay, firing your school Kiln and finding firing services in the area,
as well as how to have fun with finishing clay projects after they have
been fired ...new, interesting, and inexpensive ways to decorate and/or
preserve the surface of your clay art and MUCH more!
FEE: $100 + $20 material fee

techniques for using broken plates, glassware and other materials you've
found at thrift stores, garage sales, or maybe even your own cupboard,
to create decorative surfaces such as garden stepping stones and flower

PAUL SOLDNER: MASTER AT WORK

*** Come learn from the Master at Work as he will push the limits of
clay, revealing unique textures and forms! Paul Soldner will
demonstrate and produce a body of work in the studio. Participants are
encouraged to watch, ask questions, document and photograph the creative
process as practiced by a mature artist. He will talk about his life
and personal philosophy. In addition, Soldner will teach his low-tech
solutions for mixing glazes, making terra-sigillata, kiln-building,
firing theory, and explain his clay aesthetics.
FEE: $135 non-members / $125 OVCAG, ACGA, MECAC members

THROWING TEXTURED SLABS FOR HANDBUILT ARTWORK

*** In this two day, hands-on workshop, renowned local ceramic artists
Bob and Sandy Kinzie will lead you through the multi-faceted technique
of using thrown, textured slabs to create handbuilt artwork.
Bob will focus on the basics of throwing and inside forming to
facilitate the generation of thrown textures and the creation of thrown
slabs. Sandy will then demonstrate using those slabs for handbuilding
functional pieces.
