trimming bottoms

Here's what works for me. When throwing, bottom should be twice as thick
as when finished - check this with a needle tool. Take a push pin (the
kind with a coloured plastic head) and snip the length of the metal to the
desired finished thickness of the bottom. When ready for trimming, push
the pin in the centre of the bottom from the inside. Trim until you hit
the end of the pin. Remove pin and make sure the holes are filled in. A
rib on the outside will usually do the trick and a finger on the inside works.
