electric kiln element thickness

In the recent discussion about element thickness, it should be made
clear that just changing the thickness of the wire used for the elements
should not be done without consulting with an element designer (such as
Duralite or Euclid), because changing the thickness changes the
resistance, and thus the amount of current drawn on the element. My
Crucible kilns use heavier elements only for the topmost and bottommost
elements, to try to alleviate cold spots. One time I stuck a couple
more of the heavier elements in and the breaker kept popping from the
heavier current draw.
