Is this a fair price for a used wheel?"
Debbie -
I know that there are lots of people out there who have RK2s and like ithem,
but from my point of view, the RK2 is the worst design Shimpo has created,
and a real blot on an otherwise exemplary history of excellent pottery
wheels. They make some excellent wheels, but the RK2 was a very poor
offspring of the RK1, and has a number of serious problems, even if it is in
very good condition. You can now buy a good electric wheel brand new for
$500 to $700 US$, and I'd certainly do that before I would pay $300 US$ for
a used RK2. Be cautious on this. Personally, I would not pay $100 US$ for
a used RK2, even if it was in excellent condition.
I hope this isn't disappointing news. Check out the Creative Industries
ClayBoss, and the lower-end electric wheel models by Axner, Bailey,
Lockerbie, and Thomas Stewart.
Good luck -
- Vince
