Hey Vince-
I just bought an Axner M600 and I waited until the new pan design came out before I took delivery of the wheel. It is sturdy and every bit as heavy as the one on my manual kickwheel with the Brent head and pan. The only thing I did not like was that whoever made the pan left little places where the plastic made a sharp place on the edge around the pan, so I took a file to it and fixed that in 5 minutes. Otherwise, I think they have fixed the problem. DId make them aware of this also.
Anyway, I have been satisfied with the quality and how the wheel runs. I also was concerned with what would happen if I leaned up against the pan but it seems to be heavy enough to deal with that. I would also suggest no matter what wheel anyone has, I take foam tubing that you would use to slip onto a garden tool handle so that it is more comfy, split one side and put it around the side you are on. That way it is more comfy when you go forward and if you should bump into, it protects the edge a little more from wear (did that on my old one too). Can be taken off if necessary and rinsed off if your're really messy and slipped back on.

On the rest of the journey.....
