I don't think it's that simple, Morgan. It depends a lot on the base glaze.
The blues are just cobalt and will be some shade of blue in pretty much any
base glaze. The purples are likely to be chrome/tin pinks with cobalt
added. These require a high-calcium glaze base to work right. That might
be the problem.

Has anyone tested mason stains to find out which ones will hold their
color at cone 6?

I just tested a blue and purple. The blue held beautifully, while
purple died away and looks the same as the blue.

Hello Morgan:

I use a lot of Mason stains, the only time I get true red, orange or purple
is when using the encapsulated (inclusion stains).

I do not remeber the names off the top of my head but they are like shrimp
and tangerine and you would recognize them by the price as they are much
more expensive than the other stains.

Greens and blues are almost always true and yellow most of the time the
problem is always the reds or mixes that contain reds.

Have fun with thecolors,I do:)
