Subject: Rusty wheelhead and UK phone number area code -Rickmansworth
Hi all;
Beginning of the year, I started my hundred mugs throwing 101 to practice my
throwing. There's this wheel that's stored in the studio that I can use. The
potter who left it used to be a production potter and she used bats on the
wheel head 24/7. So the wheel head is really pimply and rusty. I throw with
slip from the body and I don't like using bats. My porcelain clay got these
little black dots on it - it shows up badly on my prissy pastel glazes.
Thinking of conservation, I also use this slip from the wheel to embellish
my stoneware pots. So that doesn't go very well either. I bought some
magnetic sticks to stir the slip, but it's not really helping. I read this
long thread on clayart that the wheel head is aluminium. Maybe it's not rust
that I have to deal with. Any insight into this situation would be
appreciated.
Please note that I don't want to spend a lot of money on new wheel head. I
would like to get a fancy bat system, but it's really not my wheel.
Also, I want to phone the wheel maker to ask about the wheel head. The label
on the wheel says: Clayglaze Ltd. Tel: Rickmansworth 770127. Can some UK
potters help me with this number?
I also have turning issues on this rusty wheel head. But one thing at a
time.
Many thanks in advance
