Scott Lykens (in a previous post) said it so well, "if you bend it, it
will warp."
I make round disc plaques 14" and 20" in dia. about 1/4' thick. My
problem with warping was caused by differences in thickness and too
much bending while handling. I now let my discs dry on plaster slabs
and cover them with plastic lightly so that the drying happens from the
bottom. I slide them to another dry plaster slab careful not to bend
them. After a couple days of this procedure I then can put them on a
drying grid and they stay flat.
One final observation is that I had a lot more warping with white
earthen ware clay than I do with porcelain that I now use. So it seems
clay IS a factor too.
