Ingeborg,
I put up a link to some really wonderful Gee's Bend Quilts.
These works are "crazed" with faults: irregular stitching, crooked
lines, but these "faults" are exactly what makes them beautiful art.
But it seems that if you don't have developed aesthetic abilities, you
have to overly depend upon technical criteria. The artist/craftsman
is made up of the tripod of abilities: technical skill, craft skill
and aesthetic ability, in one person.

Lee, Lee, Lee,
Apples and oranges. Different sets of criteria opperating here. No need to
assume arrested development. I may hang a quilt on my wall because the
seames have burst and half the batting has fallen out, but I sure wouldn't
put it on my bed during a cold night.
