Hi - I am travelling with Po on the 22 day tour after
the Xixing conference. Are you on that one also? It
was the only tour that included the Great Wall. Must
see!
Any thing special you could share with me abut
travelling with Po in China?

I have not gone with Po, but I have traveled in China.
get a chinese/english pocket electronic translator. It will cost about
$50 american and will make your trip so much more enjoyable. I met
no chinese that could not read chinese. If you type in bathroom in this
electronic device, it spells it out in chinese. Anyone can help you find
anything if you have it. If you type in "rice paper" and "buy", you will be directed to
a rice paper shop.
Learn to say please, thank you, and your numbers. A very basic chinese
travellers tape will help you and you will have a 12 hour flight to listen to it.
Take an empty suitcase to bring things back and some of those vacu-bags if
you have them, the prices on fabrics are unbelievable if you get a chance to shop.
Bring your own chopsticks or pocket utensils and use them exclusively. Don't eat
anything that is not hot off the street and if you buy fruit off the street wash it with
bottled water. Local normal bugs are different than our local normal bugs and even
with good sanitation you might become sick without some reasonable precaution.
Take some granola bars and such in case you have some stomach trouble and avail
yourself of breakfast. They make some ubiquitous white raised steamed dumplings
that are the rough gastronomic equivalent of a biscuit that are delicious, but beware, they
sometimes have a really sweet bean paste in the center.
Take about 20 rolls of film. Use them all.
