Hi Clayarters,

This subject interests me as when I was a brand new potter, maybe 2-3 years,
I came across the name of Sheila Machen, a kiln goddess. As a new member of
the Toledo Potters Guild, we went with that name for our god. Ever since
then, I have not found that name anywhere in my books. Probably was a fluke
in my reading material. We had some sort of a show at the time and my
husband created a papier mache head/torso with big "headlights" and we gave
her a string mop dyed red for hair. Of course this was made out of my
husband's imagination as there was no photo that I remember. The sculpture
made quite a hit with the public.

Any one ever come across this name?

Bonnie Staffel, always digging up the past.
