Hi

I'm moving to northern/central Pennsylvania (close to the NY border)
and am looking for a clay/materials supplier in the area. Willing to
travel into NY or southern PA. Anyone help me out with some places?

Thanks,
Lyn

Hi, Lyn.

Welcome to the neighborhood. Ceramic Supply of NY/NJ in Lodi, NJ, may
deliver to your area. Their web page is at
http://www.7ceramic.com/index.htm If you're in their delivery area, they
will not charge you if you order enough. Sheffield Clay (my favorite) at
http://www.sheffield-pottery.com/ (in the southwestern corner of MA) may
also deliver, but they will charge. Standard Clay lists its suppliers at
http://www.standardceramic.com/distributors.html -- including several in PA
and NY.

Lois,
Just FYI, the most recent time we ordered from Ceramic Supply in Lodi they
apologized for adding a small delivery charge, due to increased costs. It
was small, but I am guessing the days of free delivery may be past.

Do you have a minimum order on your Sheffield order?

Lyn, what town are you in?

They are in Sheffield, Mass and deliver to me here in Northern Virginia. (a
7-8 hour truck trip)
They routinely run trucks down this way, to the D.C. Metro area and maybe to
your area as well. You should call there and ask to speak to the "dispatcher"
and find out if that is the case.
Yes, I pay for the delivery, but I pay for Great (fresh!) i.e. softclay that
has been batch tested and
terrific service. (can you tell I have had once gotten hard clay from some
other companies?)I know that they charge you a price per pound of total weight
delivered.
I do not know their minimum as I routinely order anywhere between 1500-2000
lbs.
Of course, you could peruse their catalog and find chemicals, other things to
order from them too. Last Fall I added another Brent wheel to my delivery.
I really don't ever remember getting clay delivered free....and I have been
ordering it to be delivered for 25 years!
You can call them at 888-774-2529 and push no. for ceramic
supplies/dispatcher
or
info@sheffield-pottery.com
Best of luck

Hi, Holly.

I think Sheffield's minimum is 500 pounds. We were able to arrange a
discount on the clay that made up for most of their delivery charge.

Hi All,
I'll second that emotion! Sheffield mixes GREAT clay. They have top of
the line equipment . I've been using their clay for 20 yrs. They also
have a clay mine. They are pretty near the Albany NY area, and I've
wondered how their clay compares to the old Albany clay. Some of
their clay bodies include their own clay...

Hi Lyn,

Ceramic Supply of NY/NJ in Lodi, NJ is now a distributer for Tuckers Clays.

I suggest you call Tuckers (800-304-6185) and ask them to send you a
catalogue so you can choose the kinds of clays you want to try.

If you have any questions about Tuckers clays just send me an email.

Personally, I always had problems with Standard's Grolleg Porcelain Body.(
and two of my friends did as well)..if you would like further info, email me off
list.
I am still voting for SHEFFIELD!
Best of luck
