Hello all,

We were just curious, has anybody heard anything about the kiln
explosion at the University of Minnesota, Dept. of Art?

Paul,
-haven't really heard anything about that. But I also
can't get a hold of anyone I know there. The U. of
Minn. police dispatcher said she hadn't heard (nor
had the fire dept.) anything about it, either.
Hope all is well.

Well, being in Minnesota, I've *heard* the story from
several people, but from my perspective it's a bit like the=20
movie Rashomon; the story is a bit different each time...

So before the rumor mill gets really going: is there anybody
on this list who was actually there and can provide a first=20
hand account?

Hi,

I believe the kiln explosion was a few months ago, maybe even in the fall. I think contacting the department or graduate students (cuz they will be sure to tell you what happened) might be the thing to do. I would ask for a studio number.

My information is from two reliable sources. Yes, there was an
explosion..... very serious damage due to damper being closed too much by a
grad student firing the kiln. Fortunately, no one hurt.

I suggest that anyone with a serious interest (not just a curiosity seeker
contact Mark Pharis, Chairman of the Ceramics Department at the University
of Minnesota, for further information (details). That's the proper source
for reliable information.
