I know the Jupiter is modular in design, but I don't
know how big a deal it is to remove a ring. Nothing

Has anyone on the list done this? How hard it is?

I have had 2 L and L's the first was a J245 ; it was 5 rings high (45")
and shelves were 23" wide. I could remove the lid and rings by myself if I
absolutely had to do it. ps I am SHORT (5'3") and have no waist but I could
still do this by myself. Its all in the way you hold it and my big huge table
is right next to the kiln so I really didnt have to take but a few steps to
swing it over and lay down .
. I also took the lid supports off so I could get the lid off.. it was
rough on the brick but do- able and I used this kiln since mid 80s till last
yr.. when I priced out the cost of repairing and rewiring the kiln to be
about what I new one would cost I decided to get a new wider one instead as it
was about the same price. If I hadn't replaced the elements with the heavy
duty ones as my kiln was made before heavy duty elements were available and the
holders that L and L are so famous for hadn't broke in many places I would
have opted to repair .. I still used it for yrs this way but I decided to buy
a new one mostly because of this fault...
I now have a new kiln that is a L and L jupiter 4 rings high only
(36")but it is conciderably wider with the shelves being 29" . This I can not
lift off by myself.. and I assembled it with NO lid hinge stuff. I cant even
take the lid off by myself.. I just have to make sure my hubby is
available to help and plan around this specification...
ps you can supposedly load this kiln with all 4 rings with a ladder; but
for me to do so with my wanky body I'd end up slipping into the kiln with my
head on the bottom shelf !!! tina turner body types ( all legs no torso)
need not dream of loading 4 rings high (36") without someone holding your
feet LOL.... or if you have ape arms ie knuckles dragging on ground
LOL...
Cat Jarosz in snowy wind 30 plus MPH cold , firing the 3rd and last
45cubic foot gas kiln load in a row.. 3 days ago it was in the 80's when I
fired !!! What a difference a few days make.. I have 70 test tiles in this
one !! hoping to see many many rainbow colors in that reduction flame
woooooooooo colors.... taking John Britt's glaze class and adding to my
knowledge of clay and GEOLOGY its fascinating and fun learning.. I hope he
has part 2 as not enough time to really get into it as deeply as I'd like..
