For those who enjoy using colored glass in their work,
or those of their students a note to ponder on red
glass. Red glass is colored using gold, or at least
the good stuff is. I've heard of some other materials
that work but they are of lower quality and can even
degrade the glass. Hopefully someone who works with
glass as well as ceramics will see this and be able to
add a more experienced view. I bring this up simply to
warn that part of the color change is actual because
gold can vapourize right out of the glass. A glass
worker did a lecture at my University and talked about
how cool she thought it was that gold made the most
gorgeous reds available. She passed on that too much
heat on this kind of glass would easily ruin the
color.
Just a thought.
