It should not be necessary to go to the saw manufacturer (or overseas!) for
a new chain.

Chains for chain saws can be repaired (just as bicycle chains can). Take
the broken chain (and preferably the saw itself) to any good repair shop
that handles chain saws--they should be able to repair (or better, replace,
since it's 20 years old) your chain. They buy chain on rolls and measure
it to length for your saw, and then join the ends with a "repair" link.

A product produced in England and not exported to the U.S...... could I
order it from an English retailer?
The product, a mini-chainsaw at the end of an expandable pole, which was
produced originally in the US under the name of Woodzig. An absolutely
wonderful device if you live among oak trees and don't want to climb
them to prune. I bought mine 20 years ago and the chain just broke...
and it's no longer available in the US. It was sold to BOSCH., which
is not a company that seems to want anyone to talk to it directly.

Can anyone give me the name of an English retailer of garden tools or
hardware? Lesley, ljonesa@cox.net

Lesley -

You may not have to have it imported - try www.husqvarna.com - search for 'pole saw'. I don't know if you have Lowe's near you, but Lowe's stocks them, or they did a couple of years ago.

Good luck.

I live in northern Wisconsin, the "North Woods" and have owned chainsaws for
about 30 years. My recommendation would be to take the broken chain to a
small engine repair shop. They will count the links, determine the chain
size and make you a new chain.

Our own Toni Smith in Ohio will be able to advise you, even if she cannot=
help with a replacement (being a Stiehl agent, I believe). If you really=
find you need to order from outside the USA like the UK try other=
English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada or New Zealand=
first... The exchange rate makes everything from England a lot more=
expensive than from countries with their currency tied into the dollar.

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser
