dust and safety

Every word said about dust is true. The most careful care is just enough.

But I will repeat the message that was the first article in Tirade.
Provoked by a post that called this a ridiculous idea.

YOU are your worst enemy! No matter what you do dust gets on your clothes,
in your hair, on your skin. That man who is rubbing off glaze bumps is
generating dust around his body. Now I wish him no harm, but do wish that
he ease himself out of his clothes, when done, take the clothes outdoors in
the sun
hang'em up and (still wearing his mask) smack the clothes with a stick!
Clouds of fine dust....

SO many potters as mentioned in one of these posts, let clay blobs dry on
their clothes, and wear these clothes several days in a row. IT IS
DANGEROUS.

Hence I repeat my alarmist, hysterical warning: if you must create extra
dust, do so just before leaving the studio. Get out of your clothes, put
them in a damp plastic bag, take home and wash. Wash your face, pref. your
hair, your forearms. Go home and shower and shampoo.

Do not take your studio clothes or shoes in the car without enclosing them
in damp something beforehand.

Shower as soon as you can.

And, to my way of thinking, before you buy anything else for the studio
supply it with a small plastic tub, a watering or similar can , and a
curtained partition. Take a "shower" or sponge bath at the end of the work
day. If you can dumpster dive for a shower stall.

Oh Ms Lili, how you make me laugh! I angered the cat again, spewing
coffee at her at the thought of me, naked in the back yard wearing a
full face mask, beating my clothes with a stick, and the neighbors
looking on in horror!

Oh, I did so need that laugh. Thank you, thank you!
