1/2 hp potters wheel

I purchased a shimpo a couple of months ago and am thrilled with. I
like that it is height adjustable, has a responsive but not too touchy
pedal. While some folks find its silent motor disconcerting, I find it
helps me focus on throwing, yet still be aware of what's going on in my
environment - like being able to hear the radio. I also like that the
wheel can serve as a banding wheel when the motor isn't running. I had
almost decided to get a Brent because that's what I'd always worked on
as a student, but after hearing a number of comments about how Brents
may not be as reliable as they used to be, I decided on the shimpo. It
remains to be seen if it will hold up to the test of time.
Good luck,
Victoria

I would like to purchase a 1/2 hp wheel with 14" wheel head and am looking at the
axner #600, brent C, pacifica#400 and the shimpo svlw-whisper. Does anyone have
any recommendations?

I have worked on the Axner#600, Brent C and Pacifica.

We got 10 of the Axner's at school and after some issues with the
splash pans, that have been resolved, and after a year, they're
holding up well. Good power and speed control.

We have a few Brent B's also, but at another place I teach, they have
Brent B's, C's and one CXC. The Brent pedals seem to need adjustment
more often. Also good power.

I've worked on a few Pacifica's and the "magic" pedal took a while to
get comfortable with. But the wheel is nice and smooth.

I have a Pacifica wheel in my own studio. Pacicifca used to offer an
electric wheel kit. I bought one back in early 1980's. They supplied
all the parts except for the frame. You built the frame from 2x4's
and plywood. For whatever reason, the information on the motor was
scratched out, so I don't know what horsepower rating it is, but I've
thrown anything I want on the wheel and still use it to this day.
