communicating his enthusiasm for functional stoneware and single-firing. =
He considers form the most important single aspect of his pottery and =
pays particular attention to rims, feet, spouts and handles. During =

SCULPTING THE HUMAN HEAD -- HEATHER SPEARS
July 11-15, 2005 $345. (Can.)
Purpose: To achieve an understanding of the sound basis on which =
potraiture rests - the head in clay. Focusing on the head as a unit, =
the skull and its importance, students will model a clay skull (working =
from various craniums) to learn the structure of the head.
Then they will build the facial musculature in clay, studying and =
experimenting with the expression each muscle, or muscle group, =
generates when contracted. Finally, the features will be completed in =
their relation to the head as a whole, e.g. the stance of head on =
neck/shoulders, hair and other details. These heads can later be =
hollowed out and fired.
