When its May in Florida, our normally flowery life goes
berserk..Jacaranda trees become huge lilac colored bouquets, the
gardenia bushes bloom ,scented beyond your nose's ability to
imagine, and the magnolia have a lemony smell and huge blossoms that
last one day and then turn a beautiful rich tan.The usual impatiens
and portuilaca and confederate jasmine kick in, orchid trees..its
really a mite overwhelming..the wild life stays pretty much the
same..we had 2 manatees in the harbor, the usual impeturbable
armadillos, rabbits , squirrels, small wizened creatures crouched
behind the wheels of very large cars, many dogs, mostly of the lap
varieties..I have seen a bobcat and a fox, but those are once in five
year opportunities....

Who says there are no seasons in Florida?(oh yes, the hurricane season
starts next week..with the usual issues..shall I take in the pots that
line the rails of my back patio or wait for the warning...

Elca:
Leave the pots out. This year can't _possibly_ be as bad as last
year for storms, can it? Gods I hope not!

You forgot to mention the Royal Poinciana tree, all ablaze in it's
red-orange robes.
Or the white night blooming jasmine, covered in white pearls that
unfurl to become the flowers. That damned bush has me imprisoned in
the house at night. For some reason, though I love the smell, it
triggers the worst sinus headache attacks I have ever had...
and there it sits, in all it's glory; right outside the sliding
glass door to my bedroom. The smell, er, lovely scented aroma
travels for blocks. Sunburnt tourists ride up on their bicycles,
noses in the air, appearing as if from thin air like reddened
ghosts, wondering what "that delightful fragrance" could possibly
be. Gee, you would think that after giving away branches of it to
anyone who asked for years, I would have killed it by now LOL.

Enjoy these last few weeks of "warm but not yet stifling" evening
breezes, when pots dry overnight, and the ware boards groan from
overload!

Best,
Wayne Seidl
