The term "blowtorch" historically refers to a gas torch that had an
attachment for mouth-blowing a stream of air across the flame to supercharge
combustion. Until the last 30 or 40 years, the term usually referred to the
old brass pump-up gasoline torches. They used to be the standard torch that
plumbers used for sweat-soldering copper pipe, and were used for many other
applications. You can find them cheap on eBay, but in comparion to a
propane torch, they are rather dangerous.
