I woke every two hours Saturday night hoping it was time to open the =
kiln!
Just like Christmas eve when I was a child! Of course I was hoping for =
gems
sparkling at me when I opened the lid. But there really were no gems. =
It
was a test, after all. I had 6 new glazes and 2 that I wanted to =
re-test in
the new kiln. One glaze was too thick, I think. One needed a better =
red
iron oxide. Of the 3 ash glazes I tested only one holds much promise =
(Tim
Frederich found in recent Clay Times) but I am using fireplace ash so it =
is
a variable feast anyway.

One question comes to mind-what effect would our hard water (high =
limestone)
have on the glazes? Maybe I need to try them with distilled water to =
see if
that makes a difference.

I was powerfully tired by the time I got the kiln loaded. But it sure =
felt
good to have made it all the way through the cycle. Gay Judson, San
Antonio, TX
