Dear Lee

Thank you for another fascinating little glimpse into your way of working. I
really enjoy reading about your life and work in Japan!

I have never liked using test tiles, mainly I think because my first ever
evening class used small bowls for tests, and I always thought that was quite a
good idea. Might as well do tests on something nearly like the real thing.
Now, with my own studio, I have been making small bowls and cylinders (with
slightly flared rims, I call them cyli-bowls).

For my next glaze tests I remembered something that was done at yet another
evening class - cylinders which are then cut in half lengthways, or into
quarters if wide enough, so you end up with a kind of L-shaped object with curved
wall. I leave the throwing rings, to see how pooling etc goes. I liked your
description of standing the pieces in wads of clay, like cone packs. Next time
I think I'll try making taller cylinders, cut up more pieces, plonk them on
their little stands, ta daaaa.

Thank you again.

raw glazing and single firing this time...
