Historically, narration and illustration have been used in ceramic work =
as a way to reinforce cultural values, identity and beliefs. This =
workshop will focus on combining brushwork and/or sgraffito drawing =
techniques with handbuilt and thrown forms using underglaze on =
porcelain. Discussion and slide lectures will explore theories of =
drawing and drawing on three-dimensional surfaces. The goal will be to =
encourage the development of a personal vocabulary of ideas and imagery. =
Jason will also demonstrate how he combines some slip-cast elements with =
his thrown and handbuilt forms. Dry work will be bisqued. Basic skills =
in handbuilding or throwing will be helpful.
