I have shelves from Sam's and Costco - don't know which are which, but before
they are moved from Edmond, OK to Redondo Beach, CA, I need to replace many
of the wheels. Perhaps I had over 600 lbs on the units, but I doubt it. No
matter, the shelves are wonder for clay stuff. For a while, Home Depot sold narrow
wall board that fit just right on the shelves. It was ideal for drying
pieces.

Shula,
Try using 1/4" hardibacker for your boards.
You score and snap to the size you need.
They are a cement product and will wick moisture away
from the bottom of your pots much like the wall board.
They are thinner, have no plaster or paper which degrades
and could cause problems if you get bits of plaster in your work.
You can buy Hardibacker at any home improvement store.
Cost is $9 - 12 for approx. 4x4 sheet. It's all I use now.

I agree that they are great shelves. I bought 4 sets of them last year and
had enough material except for the poles to make another unit so I ordered
the poles direct from the manufacturer and made the 5th set.

My point about the weight maximum being different was because I had seen
other posts to this site where the 600lbs per shelf rating was quoted with
or without wheels. The shelves can support the weight but the
wheels/casters cannot.
