Just got the message below from a friend who asked me to send this to the list.
Any comments on or off the list would be welcome.

"Greg and I are thinking of buying a couple of Olympic Commercial Gas
Kilns. They are listed as Model DD14, DD17, DD40, etc. depending on the
size. Would you send out an inquiry to Clay Art and see if anyone has info
about their reliability and their efficiency. We saw one at the Local
Ceramic Supplier ( a new one) and it seemed less than heavy duty. It
probably won't affect my decision, but may affect Greg's since he will be
firing to Cone 10+ about twice a month."

Cheers, John

Hi John,

Although the model numbers are different, you might like to check this posting from just a month
ago:

I checked over the kiln mentioned in the post first hand and wasn't very impressed by the design
of it.

Hi John and Greg,

I have had owned the Olympic DD14 for a few months now and it has fired
very evenly (within a half cone top to bottom) and it is easy to control
the kiln atmosphere throughout the firing. The kiln doesn't have the bells
and whistles one would get with the more expensive kilns but it does get
the job done. The kiln is rated to cone 10 as the max temp so if you plan
to fire greater cone 10 regularly, then it may not be the best option.
Additionally Olympic Kilns was very helpful during the handful of times I
have spoken with them since my initial purchase. In the CLAYART archives
you can find more information about Olympic's Commercial down draft kilns
that I found very useful. If you do go into the archives watch out for the
ample discussion about firing Olympics updraft kilns, which is a completely
different animal.

Have a good day,
