Hi,

Speaking as a "low-cost" part time college lecturer I wonder, Janet, =
what you would suggest I do to stop my department from being dismantled =
from underneath me?

We are told that if students are not interested in learning ceramics =
then there is no need for the facilities.
Or the staff.

The fault lays well before colleges and universities, ceramics isn't =
taught in schools.=20
Craft skills have disapeared in favour of i.t. skills

It's too hard, they have never done it before and there is no job at the =
end of it.

Much easier to do installations and "conceptual" art. You get respect =
from society at large for that, and exhibitions.
With the lack of funding available this year from the learning skills =
council the cost of one of the courses I teach has gone up by five times =
from last year.
Wow, that'll really pull them in,=20

I'm not disagreeing with you, but what do you suggest we actually do?

Best Wishes,
Pat Southwood.
