centering and thanks

A few years ago I switched to teaching students to throw
by having them HUMP throw.
Now, you might think that hump throwing would be more difficult,
but remember, you don't have to perfectly center the hump--
just the doorknob sized lump on top.

It worked!! Because students could practice more times
more quickly--centering 8 or 10 pieces from just one hump--
they learned much more quickly.
I teach it this way all the time now.
I wouldn't go back to one ball at a time in the beginning.
That comes a little later in the semester.

Another topic: Thanks to Bonnie Hellman
for a wonderful review of our workshop in Ithaca.
(Don't tell them how much I paid you to take 600+
photographs.)

Linda Blossom throws great workshops,
and the students she gets are also the greatest--
serious, attentive, gracious.
Go there if you can.

Sincerely,
