Urine, from a healthy person, is supposed to be sterile. I have been told
drinking one's own pee is a "remedy" folk medicine prescribes for a
diversity of ailments. We all remember that our late, beloved member,
Martin Howard, tried pee massages as a remedy for the cancer that ultimately
killed him.

Leaving aside that males seem to enjoy peeing anywhere but in the toilet-- a
vestigial trait of marking territory--I expect peeing in the clay is both
convenient, and adds to the plasticity of the clay.

I missed a lot of Clayart recently, due to problems with my "server". But
there was talk of black clay. Be sure when you buy that the black is not
from manganese. If it is--it's up to you to weigh risks etc.

As to food coloring: It is swell to add it to the raw clay. Just remember.
if your cone 6 and cone 10 bodies ALSO look alike once bisqued, you will
have to do SOMETHING to prevent getting each into the other's kilns. I
would suggest a small identification stamp--or a different signature on each
body.

Weird. I sent in two Tony Yeh recipes I found in CM 3/'95 a short time ago.

Iron Red:
Bone Ash 11.36
talc 12.50
Whiting 10.23
Feldspar 52.27
flint 13.64
RIO 13.64

Gorgeous on my c. 6 body, fired in a non-digital electric kiln

The Buckwheat originally had barium. I used strontium. For reasons I do
not remember--maybe I calculated this glaze--I used Wollastonite for the
Whiting.
The glaze was a bit too "dry", still my notes say : use more silica.
[Duh?]

Strontium 2.83
talc 6.60
Whiting 16.98Neph Sy 56.60
Kaolin 7.55
flint 9.44
RIO 7.55

I think I transcribed correctly. Apologies for errors. You should read the
article which is excellently good.
