before electricity...
in family studios, the elders who no longer had backs
ready for breaking spent their time
teaching
evaluating
kibbitzing the "new" pieces
handbuilding with the flourish that only time can grant

it was a natural progression and passing.

It sure would be nice to get there again.
Hell, I can't keep up with my old standards and I am only pushing 40.

Thank you Elizabeth and John and sharing your experience. I wouldn't say that everybody needs to switch to these kinds of wheels. But they are very good to learn on or even just experience, simply to broaden one's skills. Of course, electric wheels enable folks to work on the wheel that might not otherwise be able to.
