I haven't read all of the posts...
But....
my strategy for reading cones
Starts with my cone pack...
I line up the cones in a line and
Make a coil circle at the far/hot end
With the cone pack material/clay....
I can often focus on the clay hole/coil
And move or count cones to the left of
The circle in the pack...
Other times I make an arc that forms to the
Right...the cones fall to the left...
Helps create a marker...and the clay
Seems easier to see....even at
Cone 11....my top temperature...
Somehow the circle...hollow form...
Helps a lot....
I also hold my line of vision at
The location of the cone pack...and
Bounce gently up and down until the
Cones become visible....
The motion is much like what I see
Lizards doing....rocking up and down
To focus....
Also it becomes a strategy for discussions
Around the kiln when firing....
Hope I am not duplicating other posts....
Bamboo karen....
