I just got off the phone with Gary Navarre from Michigan. What a cool and nice guy, had his bumps like many of us. Struggles, like myself, month to month. What a great discussion, wood firing, kiln designs, our pots, what is special to each of us in our approach, thoughts, feelings. I've invited Gary to a firing and he's invited me. This has given me an idea and one that perhaps many of us can share in.

If anyone is interested in doing a clayart anagama wood firing, let me know. I am thinking in August or October 2005. You would bring bisque, primitive camp possibly or nearby hotel. Osceola, Wisconsin, 20 minutes from Warren McKenzie, Jeff Oestrich, Linda Christiansen, Northern Clay Center, and many others.

Dear Tony,
Yes, I would be interested in a ClayArt anagama wood firing. What a
privilege to meet you, see your kiln and meet some ClayArters. Please keep

Thanks for the plug, man. I'd like to be up for something like that,
sometimes I get 2 or 3 days off in a row. End of September more into
October begins the brushing season round here so I'll also be gathering
limbs again for kiln fuel and greens for Christams decorations. One of the
gals I work with said they have 3 vary tall pines, might be Balsam, and a
huge White pine I can have the limbs/wood from when they are droped. I've
had it in the back of my mind to have some sort of "Gathering Wood"
workshop for those so inclined. Wasn't thinking of charging anything to
helpers, in fact could get them a portion of the brush sales (probably gas
money) for helping gather the wood. Depending on how my co-worker wants the
trees done I would do most of the climbing, if any, and chain saw work,
unless one is confident of their skills and has their own saw. Mostly I
drop the limbs and you snip and bundle the limbs and brush. I have a little
room in the cabin and an outside outlet for someones camper. It might be a
bit chilly for a tent. I'm thinking I'll get another set or two of loping
shears and some snips from work cause we sell Fiskar and I need new snips.
I will add a word of caution though, as with all work in the woods, don't
get hurt. I haven't got my $2,000,000 liability policy, yet.
I'll see if that "kid" I met at "Art For All" would be into the firing if
his classes allow. Could turn out to be quite interesting.
Stay in there!
