Layering has always been one of my specialties and during my
apprenticeship,. I learned how Hamada ladle decorated and also his
wax-resist technique. I had on & off success layering shino with other
glazes in St. Paul. Sometimes, I would have to refire, putting frit
on the top glaze to smooth it. But after Tony visited, I started
working with layering different types of shinos. Sometimes, I will
refire a shino with a coat of a different kind of shino, reglazing the
pot. You can see two of these here:
