Did you really mean to say cone 5?.....even 05 is too hot (check out the
archives under 'raku guru' for a thread that covers alot of the problems I
was having). Get some large cones and put them in your kiln the 1st few
times to really know where you are . Each glaze will have an optimum
range... between 1750-1850F.
And getting the pieces into the reducing beds/cans fast is very important.
Don't even bother rakuing on a cold and windy day.

Dear Dewese,
I am not sure, but it sounds like a heavy build up of carbon which
means you may not have gotten above 500 degrees. Is that possible?
Did you ever see any color in the kiln? OR is your glaze black? Hard
to tell what happened. Can you describe it further?
