Where can I learn about the potters that are in the Michigan U.P.? Only
three Michigan potters are listed in the Potters' Council directory.

Thank you.

Hay Nancy,
I've only met a little over a half-dozen and heard of a few more since
moving to Norway three years ago, after 30 years of a peripheral
involvement in Kalamazoo's art scene. None have gotten back to me, yet.
Maybe they don't want to risk their accidemic reputations by acknowledging
this reprobate exists. Maybe they are just busy working. Like my pal Peter
Hayes says, "Anybody who spends all their time on the internet just ain't
gettin the job done." Or more probable is that Finlander quirk of "shyness"
and keep to themselves. Maybe they are just too drunk, I don't know. "Ya
know there isn't much to do in the winter in the U.P. but drink." At least
that's what the social worker at the treatment center in Kalamazoo told me
before moving up here.
You might have some luck contacting Bay College in Escanaba or Finlandia
University in Houghton. My understanding is Finlandia is building an
Anagama shortly with the help of some guy from Finland. Good luck and stay
in there!

Try the MCAA (Michigan Ceramics Art Association) or
try calling the colleges in the U.P. and talking to
their ceramics departments. The NCECA directory might
be another place to look.

You can also call the Community Art Center in Hancock --they display some of the local potters work and can probably tell you who they are.
