I totally agree with Mel. I hate credit cards.
Sure, I love it when my customers use them,
but I have gotten myself into a lot of trouble
before with them.

I'm now cash or my debit/check card.

Steve,
Others will probably weigh in on this before I, but I think you've got it
backwards...

I use credit cards for my business, because it gives me an extra 25 days
interest free to pay my bills. But, I make sure and pay in full each month.

I hate credit cards when selling pots. I calculated earlier this year that
the fee the bank/credit card company takes out of each sale is more than the
cost of my clay, glaze and firing for that piece. Doesn't seem right, does
it? So, I exhort my customers to pay with check or cash, even if it means
they send me a check in the mail when they get home. (never been stiffed yet).

I stopped taking credit cards ten years ago when I watched another
potter's booth for a half hour. She didn't take cards and the people
just pulled out their cash. We calculated what we had paid in card fees
for a year and decided we could absorb the loss of a check not sent.
We've only had one problem. A customer in Nashville ( a pastor no less).
Did not respond to phone calls or letters. I finally went ot the Judge
Judy website, told my story and gave the name and address. A week later
I had my check. I guess when contacted the good pastor decided it
wouldn't be a good thing to go on national tv and explain why she had
stiffed an artist.
