quartzite question

A friend has some small vials of Quartzite grains and rocks. She's
had them so long that she doesn't remember where she got them or what
they're for. I'd like to experiment with them but don't want to do
anything stupid like ruin my kiln.

Most of the vials are labeled with labels that contain a number, a
color and either a designation of rocks or grains. There is no
company name. The labels were made on a manual typewriter so that
indicates how old they might be.

The only apparent difference between the rocks and grains is the
size. The grains are about the size of fine sand and the rocks are about 2mm.

There are several colors of each . Black, white, green, grey, blue
brown and rust

My thought was to add different proportions to a clear or white glaze
and just see what happens.

Any other suggestions or cautions?
