I am looking for a suggestion for a good base glaze for raku. Something that is good for colors. Something that works well with copper and cobalt would be a good start.

Thanks,

Judy,

A good start would be this basic raku glaze:
A gerstley Borate substitute 80
and Nepheline Syenite 20

If you add 10% zircopax , you'll get a crackle white. If you add bone
ash and then some oxides you'll have a variety of effects. One base
glaze is good but do you want Matt, shiney, crackle or luster? Hard
to do all that with one base. Go to the archives and look up Raku
glazes.
