lead glaze in kiln

If I fire pieces with leaded glazes in my kiln will I then be able to =
safely fire unleaded pieces, or will the kiln brick be contaminated with =
the lead?=20

Hi Carol,

It depends on the temperature you are firing to. If you are firing
earthenware the contamination will probably be minimal. If you are
firing to cone 6, yes, you will contaminate your kiln. How much it is
impossible to say without testing. I personally would not take the
chance. If you do it would be a good idea to do some testing afterward
and be prepared for some difficult decisions.
