Randy,
When I lived in Pawleys Island, I always brought Blenheim Ginger Ale to the Clayart Room. Ask Russel how much he loves that stuff. I really miss it, especially the hot version, but I never tried it with vodka. Anybody coming to Portland from South Carolina? Perhaps we can work a deal!

I've had many requests; one to post the recipe, so here goes:
This is my modification of the one recently referred to.
Ginger Ale
Ingredients
5 oz ginger root, sliced
2 small or one large lemon, sliced and seeds discarded
2 cups water
dash ground cardamom or 1/2 tsp cardamom seeds
2 cups light brown sugar, not packed
Puree the ginger root, lemons and water in a blender. Put that into a
non-reactive pan with the cardamom and sugar. Heat to a rapid boil and let
cook for a few minutes. Strain to remove the pulp.
Experiment with the quantities, but at a recent gathering, my friends
enjoyed a coffee scoop full of the syrup (I think that's two tablespoons)
over ice with sparkling water and some lemon wedges. Mint would be good
too. Soooo refreshing. If one were so inclined, vodka, gin, or rum would a
be fine addition.
As a side note, the next time I make this, I'm going to peel the ginger
root, increasing the starting quantity accordingly. Why? Well make this
and then taste that strained pulp. It's delicious and I can imagine a it
making a great base for a chutney. Add mustard and vinegar to it and
marinate chicken or fish in it. Can you tell that it's time to make dinner?

Thanks for the recipe.
Really want to try it. We have a locally manufactured ginger ale that is
called Blenheim Ginger Ale. They make it in regular or hot. Some folks mix
the hot version with vodka and call it a "Moscow Mule" for reasons I just
won't mention.

I ordered three cases of Blenheims last year. I like it, its fun. The
hot stuff is hot from peppers not ginger. I suggest for those wanting
HOT ginger to try using some galangal or Laos a hotter ginger relative
in thier own brew..
Mail order direct from Blenheims and save money. Other places on the
web have a steep markup.

I had seen where you at one time lived in Pawley's Island from the clayart
posts.
Do you know if there are any other potters around Myrtle Beach or Pawleys
Island?
I have been searching for other potters around this area but have only found
the Federers in Florence. I think Doug Gray is also from Florence.
I always wondered why there were not more potters down in the beach area
with all the tourist traffic?
