bubbles in clay...

I use the spiral or shell method to wedge. I find that I can see the bubbles open as the outside of the clay comes under my hand. If the clay is not directly out of the bag, I wedge it 100 times. If it's from the bag I find that 30 times mixes it well. You gotta be careful that you don't put air in as you wedge.

After it's on the wheel and centered, I usually cone it up and then press down to make sure I"ve get the center right. Then I screw it up, make rude comments, wedge again and let it sit in an arc till it stiffens, then I go at it again.

Oh yea, the part about screwing doesn't happen all that often...although my fellow potters might disagree.
