This week I went to the Tim Hawkinson show
At the LA Co. Mus of Art LACMA....
What a gift...and a surprise participating in
The joy of how Tim thinks...
Some thoughts...
The choice of materials is crude...things
That would be accessible to anyone...such as
Plastic bottles....wiring.....odd parts
Constructed into a machine that acts out
Events....sounds....
I often felt like a cat...transfixed with
A moving object that had some intent...
I just needed to watch...give it time to
Reveal it's intent...then I would chuckle
And move on to the next object...
The construction of objects is crude...
made with no consideration for the finish fetish
That has existed for so long...interesting...
A funny sense of humor with the contraptions
That exist to tell time...create noise...
As with the raging mop head...
Such a kick...
Walking around the show ...causes surprise
And laughter seeing the nature of the ideas...
And the resulting object representing his
Train of thought...and in large part what one
Carries away from the show is a window into a curious
Thought process with the energy to move forward
And create objects...
The bird skeleton...made from fingernail clippings...
It stands about 3 inches tall...miraculous...curious....
Funny....one stares with disbelief...and wonder...
The show started at the Whitney...and has a catalog...
Although expensive...perhaps worth while...
There might be images online as well....
Worth a look....
An effort to travel away from the body worlds
Discussion....

His stuff is super-cool. I've been cruising
eBay for a book of his that I can afford for
about a year now; now I suppose all of you
out there will be looking, too. Dangit.
(Had to just go and tell everyone about him,
huh, Karen?) ;)
