Tony was so right about Lisa Orr and her approach to clay. It is direct and
it is magical. Everyone at the workshop was very happy that they had come.
Lisa fell in love with the natural look of hand built Mexican pottery which
has such a human feel to it. But she did more than see it as historical
or interesting. She figured out how the Mexican work was made - no not
pinch or coil - and devised a way to easily do the same. As a result she
has made her work about that natural, asymmetrical look. We learned so
much from her and it is true that you cannot leave a workshop without
knowing that your own work will be influenced. If you have a chance to
attend a workshop with Lisa don't miss it. She is a terrific person,
artist, and teacher.

If you are connected to a facility that hosts workshops, this would be one
of the most important that you could suggest. If you have a studio that
could accommodate about 10 people and you know people who would be
interested, you can host a workshop. This is what I do and the education is
worth the effort,. not to mention getting to know wonderful people,
bringing together other clay folks and sharing time with them. I have never
had an unpleasant participant or presenter. It saves the people in my area
and myself the travel and hotel expenses.

It was a truly wonderful and inspiring weekend,
