I've noticed some recent posting mentioning that Randy's Red is =
sometimes called Touchtone Red. I have two different recipes for those =
two glazes, as follows:

Touchtone Red
32 Gerstley Borate
30 Flint
20 G-200
15 Talc
5 EPK
plus 15 Red Iron Oxide

Randy's Red
50 Gerstley Borate
20 EPK
30 Flint
plus 15 Red Iron Oxide=20

For me Randy's Red comes out a flat, red, almost painted look. I didn't =
like it much. The Touchtone Red comes out a lovely satin with lovely =
streaks of browns and reds and almost orange and sometimes even some =
blue streaks.

The total for Touchtone below is 102 without the iron - is that correct?

The main difference between the two glazes - the Touchtone has twice as
much MgO and about half the Alumina - two very different glazes.

While the Silica is the same for both the Touchtone is short of alumina for
a stable glaze and will degrade in the washing machine or if used on a soap
dish as an example - so the Randy's Red will be the more durable of the
two.

Doing a 5 part line blend between the two glazes might produce an
acceptable compromise.
