On Aug 23, tours of ceramic sites were advertised on
ClayArt by Guangzhen "Po" Zhou of The Chinese Clay Art
out of
Cupertino, CA 95015.

I have visited the web site and read Richard Notkin's
testimonial. But before I commit 2 weeks of my life,
has anyone else ever toured with this person or this
organization?

I MAY be in China at the exact time of this tour and
would greatly appreciate any feedback anyone can give
me. Plus any comments on the internatl. ceramic fairs
in Foshan and Jingdeshen.

Any clues on how to learn some LANGUAGE very fast??

TIA!!

Hi Karen,

I don't have any input regarding the tours offered through the clayart
postings, but do have a couple of suggestions for quickly learning a little
bit of Mandarin. They are two sites suggested to me by a co-worker as I too
am going to China in a couple of months, and am hoping to have the
opportunity to get to Jingdezhen for a visit.

To all, I'd like to mimic the request that Karen has regarding any
ceramic related events, but in the towns of Beijing and Nanchang (apparently
about 4 hours or so away from Jingdezhen).

Thanks in advance,

Karen,
I spent 3 weeks with Po on a pottery tour in China 3 years ago. It was, for me, fantastic! Po is fun, kind, considerate, conscientious, diligent and absolutely honest. His tour was well-run and very focused on ceramic art, current and ancient. Po, by the way, is a talented sculptor...got his MFA from San Jose State. If I had the time and money I'd go back to China with him without hesitation.
Going to China, of course, is not like going to Chicago...or Alfred. The language, the food, the accomodations, the sites, sounds, smells...everything...make it an experience that some enjoy more than others. I found that people everywhere in China were open, warm and friendly, and the experience rewarding.
Good potting!
