US Pigments still show GB available in the original
analysis. I would call Syed and ask him for the
analysis and see and then make a purchase and if you
want to chance it you need an analysis anyways so you
can put the adustments in your calculations. Never buy
a stock of material in large quantities unless you run
some actual glazes through the kiln to test the
material. Then buy only from that stock. This means
you will need to have a good relationship with the
company so they will make sure you are getting the
same thing when you go back.

Let me clarify that I don't know what an original
analysis is since I have about 10 different analysis
for the same thing. I had to start adding codes in
order to keep up. I can give you the analysis on what
I use but I never use it for any base glaze purposes.
I just use it for washes and sometimes in stains that
call for it where frit seems to be a problem.
Occasionally it's the other way around. I also will
sometimes run a test against a recipe where I am
making a change to correct faults where GB was once used.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your input on this.

I have this overview that the old batches of GB had enough similarities
that you could use them inter changeably most of the time

What I am talking about are some of the more recent versions that were more
refractory and did not work as expected with many glazes.

I am also under the impression that it is not mined in the conventional
sense but rather picked up - does anyone know just how it occurs?
