spraying clear glaze question

Hello all !

If you want to lay a thin layer of a clear glaze
on a vessel which would you do?

Spray a thin layer of normal consistency glaze
or
Spray a normal layer of very thinned glaze

Logic tells me there should be a difference,
but ... is there?

Chris Campbell - in North Carolina - I want to know
where on earth did this whole year go???

Chris,

It depends upon the piece. If there are any thin protrusions or thin
cross sections, the bisque will saturate quickly when using very thin
glaze, and it can start running off (or you can get bubbling on the
surface). Depending upon your melted glaze viscosity and ability of
your sprayer, glaze that is too thick can leave a texture. Many
factors. I would try normal consistency first, adjusting your sprayer
to a fine spray.

Chris

I do this on some of my pots. What works best for me is a thin layer of
normal consistency.

Chris,
If you thin the glaze a lot, the coarse materials in it will tend to settle out. :-(
You have no real alternative but to apply a thin layer of a glaze of "sprayable" consistency.
Good potting!
