"Potter's Apprentice: Continuity and Mentorship in a Modern Tradition"
October 17 - November 20, 2005
Mahady Gallery, Visual Arts Center, Marywood University, Scranton, PA.
Reception October 22, 6-8 p.m.
This exhibition features a cross section of a contemporary ceramic
tradition. A variety of approaches to mentorship allow for continuity
in the work of an international community of ceramic artists. Works on
display are on loan from private, gallery, and nuseum collections, and
include pieces by Hamada, Leach, Cardew and selected potters from
successive generations of their lineage: Svend Bayer, Naomi Dalgish,
Michael Hunt, Warren Mackenzie, Randy Johnston, Jan McKeachie-Johnson,
Todd Piker, Zoe Poster, Douglass Rankin, Will Ruggles, Phil Rogers,
Tatsuko Shimaoka, Mark Skudlarek, Liz Sparks, Jordon Taylor, Michael
Thiedeman, and Noriyasu Tsuchiya.
An exhibition catalog sccompanies the exhibit.
This exhibition is curated by Jordon Taylor, a potter from Uniondale, PA
(and former apprentice himself) and is supported by PA Council on the
Arts, PA Humanities Council, TR Associates and the Margaret Briggs
Foundation.
