ctr (chrome tin red) - chrom-taminated kiln

Hiya;

I have left-over chrome in my kiln and it's turning my tin-white pink.
The worst part is the contaminated tin glaze is not nice and it doesn't
look intentional, like a white shirt washed in with reds. Everybody
knows that the shirt was pink because somebody forgot to separate the
whites!!

Now I can't use my tin white glaze. Will the chrome burn out in the kiln
eventually?

Thanks
May

Hi May,

One possible solution is suggested in Bill Edwards post of yesterday on the
CTR Chrome Tin Red thread. He mentioned ratios of Alumina, silica and calcium
which tended to immunise a tin containing glaze from picking up chrome
pinking.
It would take some testing but perhaps your tin white could be altered to make
it less susceptible to chrome flashing.

Thanx
